Jim PoirierChemistry(jpoirier9@aol.com) Jim received
a degree in chemistry from UCSD and an MA in Science Curriculum from San Diego State University. He has taught chemistry
for 33 years, the last 25 being at La Jolla High School in San Diego. He has been a chemistry AP* Reader for 6 years
and has led many day- long and week-long workshops for the College Board. Recently he authored "Curriculum Guide
to Teaching AP* Chemistry" for the College Board. Jim enjoys the exchange of ideas and
techniques in the teaching of chemistry. Demonstrations play a big role in his teaching day and students are often surprised
and inspired by the day's demonstration. Teachers in his workshops are encouraged to share their ideas and demonstrations.
He enjoys ocean swimming, kayaking and deep sea fishing.
SCHEDULE AP
CHEMISTRY In general, mornings will be spent in problem solving, demos and class
discussions. Afternoons will be devoted to labs. There will be usually two labs per day. Please share with
us your favorite demos and ideas. Handouts are welcome. There will be problem assignments whose solutions will
be shared with the class. Please bring a lab notebook or binder in which you can write out your labs.
