Daren Starnes Statistics–New (dstarnes@lawrenceville.org) Daren Starnes is Mathematics Department Chair and holds the Dow
Distinguished Master Teaching Chair in Mathematics at The Lawrenceville School near Princeton, NJ. Daren earned his M.A. in
Mathematics from the University of Michigan and his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He
is lead author of the best-selling high school statistics texts The Practice of Statistics and Statistics Through
Applications and coauthor (with Roxy Peck) of Making Sense of Statistical Studies, a capstone module in statistical
thinking for high school students. Daren is a frequent speaker at local, state, regional, national, and international conferences.
He has led numerous one-day and weeklong AP* Statistics institutes for new and experienced teachers, and he has been a reader,
table leader, and question leader for the AP* Statistics exam since 1998.

Olsen Statistics–Experienced (COlsen@mchsi.com)
Chris
Olsen taught mathematics at George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, for over 25 years. His teaching
load typically included Advanced Placement* Statistics and Advanced Placement calculus, precalculus, and an assortment of
other classes. He is now teaching at Grinell College in Grinell, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University majoring in mathematics
and philosophy, and in his graduate work concentrated on statistics, computer programming, and psychometrics and test development.
He has been involved nationally in workshops and conferences mostly relating to statistics
for almost 20 years. He was the Iowa recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching
in 1986, Regional Awardee of the IBM Computer Teacher of the Year award in 1988, and a recipient of the 1999 Siemens Award
for Advanced Placement* in mathematics. He is a frequent contributor to the AP* Statistics listserv, and has reviewed
materials for The Mathematics teacher, the AP* Central web site, The American Statistician, and the Journal of the American
Statistical Association. He currently writes a column for Stats magazine. He is a co-author, with Roxy Peck and Jay Devore,
of the Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis, published by Duxbury Press. He is
a past member (twice) of the AP* Statistics Test Development Committee, and has been a table leader and question leader at
the AP* Statistics reading for 12 years. Since the summer of 1996 has presented numerous workshops in AP* Statistics
in the United States and internationally.
